Juntai hydrophilic polyurethane (HPU) bio-fillers are a novel type of biological carrier modified and synthesized from polymeric polyurethane materials.
The unique structure combines macropores and micropores: macropores help maintain stable gas, liquid, and solid phases, while micropores serve to adsorb and immobilize microorganisms. Within the micropores, hydrophilic functional groups such as amino, carboxyl, and epoxy groups enable the HPU MBBR biomedia to rapidly absorb water, expand, and settle. These groups also facilitate quick adsorption and fixation of microorganisms and enzymes.
With a density greater than that of water, the HPU biomedia settles quickly and supports a high microbial load, offering a larger volumetric load compared to surface-area-based carriers. Its structural properties promote effective mixing and contact among wastewater, air, and biofilm, allowing microorganisms to rapidly colonize the carrier while maintaining high metabolic activity and adaptability.
During operation, the moving HPU carriers help cut air bubbles-driven by the three-dimensional flow of wastewater-into finer sizes, enhancing oxygen transfer efficiency and reducing aeration requirements.
As a result, HPU biomedia offers high bubble-cutting capacity, efficient spatial utilization, and no dead zones, making it an advanced and effective solution in biological wastewater treatment.
